Current interventions include the development of a
pilot process for sectoral human rights based approaches in Uganda
focusing on three core sectors of Justice, Law and Order; Education and
Health. The process is aimed at developing and implementing strategies
for the integration of human rights based approaches in the planning,
budgeting, implementation and monitoring of programmes and activities
in these sectors so as to enhance the effective enjoyment of human
rights including the right to education, the right to health and
justice sector human rights standards such as the right to a fair trial
IHRN EA is also in the process of developing a five
year strategic plan for the Uganda Prisons Service. The aim is to
initiate an institutional change process from a largely custodial
perspective to focus on rehabilitation and transformation of offenders
into responsible citizens.
