• The report Human Rights Based Approaches in EU development Policies was launched in 2008.

• Human rights based approaches are not only relevant to developing countries. IHRN has undertaken a review of Ireland’s own development from the perspective of human rights based approaches.

• A key challenge is to ensure the use of human rights based impact indicators for development policy and programming.

• Previously, IHRN carried out a review with Dóchas, the umbrella organisation for Irish development NGOs. This review aimed to support some thirty Irish development actors in identifying practical steps towards human rights based approaches in their development and humanitarian work.

IHRN support mapped views and practices regarding human rights among Dóchas members through surveys, interviews and analysis. Based on these participatory findings, the Network advised on practical recommendations.

The review was funded jointly by Dóchas and IHRN, as part of the Network’s pro bono programme. The discussion document is now available Human Rights Based Development: Mapping with Dóchas Members.
